WORLD RECORD FOR SOUTH AFRICAN DIVERS

At an exceedingly well-organized event, which took place in Durban during July, 2001 the world record for the most scuba divers underwater simultaneously was not only broken, but nearly trebled. The new record is 592 while the previous audited record stood at 215.

The event was organized by the Durban Underwater Club who went to great lengths to make the occasion the resounding success which it was. Auditors for the event were Messrs. Price Waterhouse.

NAUI was highly visible throughout. Its stand, bedecked with a variety of promotional materials, was really outstanding. The stand was sponsored by NAUI Services of South Africa and ably manned by NAUI Instructor Trainer John Young and several assistants. See photographs.

Details of the achievement have been submitted to Guinness Book of Records for confirmation.

The Durban Underwater Club proposes to make this an annual event - and NAUI will be there!
